Let's Worship Together

Worship

We believe that God uses nearly all forms of worship that focus on His praise, Word, prayer, healing and power, to reach us with this love and grace. Therefore, each Sunday we offer both Contemporary and Traditional styles of worship and praise. Many members alternate between these services and some attend both. We invite you to find your place at either of these services.

Second Street Service at 8:45 am

This is our Contemporary Worship Service and is named for the street that runs next to our Fellowship Hall on the north side of our campus. Greeters will be at the doors to welcome you and direct you to morning refreshments, coffee and tea and help you find your seat. Our Praise and Worship Band will begin the service which includes music, a children’s time, a sermon from the pastor and Holy Communion at the end. Children are dismissed after the children’s message to children’s church next door in our Children’s Building if parents elect for them to go. Otherwise they stay for the sermon and are welcome to receive Holy Communion with their parents’ help. We are blessed to have Nile Havens lead our praise band with the help of Cynthia Sandage.

Traditional Service at 10:45 am

Our beautiful neogothic Sanctuary is the setting for traditional worship here at First Methodist Church. Its construction in the 1980’s was inspired by an earlier sanctuary built near the turn of the century. Far from being just a historic monument, our traditional services are full of beautiful and inspired music from our choir and pipe organ, hymns from our new Global Methodist Hymnal, meaningful liturgy and challenging messages addressing real life issues from a Biblical perspective. We observe the seasons of the church year in all their beauty and meaning. Dr. Dan Gibbs, who is well regarded as a deeply spiritual and gifted musician leads our music ministry and we are fortunate to have Helen Nelson playing skillfully our pipe organ.
