We provide a beautiful, safe and modern Children’s Building and playground for children to learn about the love of Jesus Christ and experience worship and growing. Many of our teachers and leaders have years of experience as Christian educators and teachers in our local schools.
Just as we offer Discipleship Classes for our youth and adults, our children learn about the love and care of the Good Shepherd in small groups on Sunday Morning from 9:45 until 10:45. We use Bible-based modern curriculum and hands-on learning for them to experience the Bible and its truths.
During the Contemporary Service at 8:45, we reserve a time to gather the children who want to come forward and participate in the Children’s Message. This is normally based on the sermon scripture for the day if appropriate. Our Children’s Ministry Director or one of their helpers will engage the children in an object-oriented lesson geared to their level.
Following the Children’s Message, the younger children will follow the leaders to the Children’s Building and engage in activities and continued lessons for the morning. This gives our parents the freedom to focus on the morning sermon in the 2nd Street Service and receive Holy Communion. Children are welcome to receive Communion if the parents wish to do so.
We have a lovely and modern Nursery for children 6 week to 36 months old. The Nursery is open on Sundays from 8:30 am until the conclusion of the Traditional Worship service. On Wednesday evenings during “Wednesday Night Live”, the Nursery is open as needed for parents attending classes or those working with our children. Please call the Church Office at 318-377-1483, if you need the Nursery on Wednesdays or on special occasions.
First Methodist Church is THE place to be on Wednesday nights! Our children and their parents are treated to a great meal at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall. We have two different menus to meet the needs of kids and adults. Then at 6:00, the call goes out to move the children to “First Kids” for learning activities and the parents may choose to go to several offerings of adult Bible learning classes. A list of those classes is under the “Discipleship Classes” tab and changes throughout the year.
Each summer our church if filled with children from our community and church as they celebrate Vacation Bible School! We look forward to this time of fun, singing, dancing and learning about Jesus and his love. V.B.S. dates change each year so stay “tuned” here for the announcement and dates. We are blessed each summer with meeting new children and the families that bring them to this fun week of learning and meeting new friends!
We celebrate the seasons of the Christian Calendar which includes the time of preparation for Christmas called, “Advent”. Advent begins either the last Sunday of November or the first Sunday of December. On this Sunday, our children play a special role by bringing into the church, the season’s traditional and meaningful decorations such as the garland and the wreaths. After the church has been decorated, we will have a brief and simple telling of the real story of Christmas with help from our children who play the parts. Please contact the church at 318-377-9332 if you would like your child to participate.
