We have recently begun a food pantry located here on our church campus. Large grocery bags were handed out to members after worship services with a list of needed non-perishable items requested. They returned the bags full of food and they are now sorted, stored and ready for distribution. Our operating hours are from 9:30 until noon, Monday through Thursday except for holidays. A person requesting food must register with a valid Louisiana driver’s license or picture I.D. and must live in Webster Parish.
We support the United Christian Assistance Program here in Minden by sending financial support each month, hosting their annual “Hunger Feast” and dessert auction, and several Discipleship Classes collect special needs they announce during the year. U.C.A.P. fills many needs beyond bags of food that are beyond our capacity. We support them with financial gifts, cooperation and our prayers.
We are regionally known as the “Pumpkin Church” because each October we unload and sell pumpkins and other vegetables (mainly decorative gords) to raise money for local missions. Our campus is full of beautiful orange pumpkins for family pictures and purchase. During this month, we also have a night of fun for children and families at a Wednesday night “Pumpkin Shine” and have a Sunday afternoon “Blessing of the Animals and their Families”. If you would like to visit or volunteer, we would love to have you here!
This past year we began a service ministry of handing out free cold water at community events, parades and festivals. We have our water wrapped in our F.M.C.M. labels and keep it ice cold for distribution with a smile and offer to a church brochure. Our first event was the “Scottish Tartan Festival”.The many parades that roll through downtown Minden begin near our church. We offer the parade participants cold water, clean bathrooms and a shady place to get out of the sun. It is a good way to reach out to our community with “a cup of water” in Jesus’ name (Matt. 10:42).
